In honor of America's 250th anniversary, we're highlighting projects that helped shape the nation. From industry and infrastructure to civic and military facilities, these landmarks tell a story of American progress through the places Turner helped build. ––––– Ford Motor Company Kearny Assembly Plant, c. 1918-1919 Opened in 1918, the Ford Motor Company’s Kearny Assembly Plant was strategically positioned to serve the growing New York metropolitan market. As demand for the Model T surged, the plant became a key manufacturing hub, leveraging Ford’s innovative assembly-line techniques to boost production efficiency. In 1919, Turner completed an expansion of the plant, adding to its production capacity as Ford scaled up operations. At its peak, the facility employed approximately 8,000 workers and produced over 700 vehicles daily, solidifying its role as a major contributor to Ford’s rapid growth during the early 20th century. The Kearny plant remained in operation until the late 1920s, when Ford transitioned production to the larger Edgewater Assembly Plant. Though the facility is no longer standing, its legacy endures as a pivotal chapter in both Ford’s history and New Jersey’s industrial development. #BuiltbyTurner #TurnerNewYork #FordMotorCompany #ModelT #Manufacturing
