When the World Cup begins, TUM Alumni are right there on the sidelines ⚽ As the tournament kicks off, we’re highlighting two TUM Alumni shaping elite sports medicine at the highest level: Dr. Jochen Hahne (State Examination in Medicine 2006, Doctorate 2007) and Prof. Peter Ueblacker (State Examination in Medicine 1999, Doctorate 2001) – both physicians at FC Bayern Munich. Hahne is also serving as team physician for the German national team at the World Cup. In a new interview with TUM, they share insights into how medical decision-making in professional football is evolving – combining clinical expertise with tools such as MRI, ultrasound, GPS tracking, and emerging AI. Their perspective is clear: data has long been available – but its real impact lies in how it is interpreted and applied in practice.
