NWO Open Technology Programme funds TU Delft research on reliable neuromorphic computing š„ļøš§ We're excited to share that Dr. Anteneh Bogale Gebregiorgis and Prof. Said Hamdioui (both from the faculty of EEMCS) have been awarded funding through the NWO Open Technology Programme (OTP) for the BRAINS project (Built-in Reliability for Adaptive Integrated Neuromorphic Systems). As AI increasingly moves into safety-critical applications, ensuring the reliability of neuromorphic processors becomes essential. BRAINS will develop next-generation neuromorphic processors for sub-10 nm technologies through a co-design approach that integrates algorithms, hardware architectures, and reliability-optimized standard cells. The project aims to reduce failure rates by a factor of 10 to 100 while significantly lowering the overhead compared to current state-of-the-art solutions. The approach will be validated in a 7 nm spiking neuromorphic processor through stress, aging, and radiation testing. The expected outcomes include adaptive learning mechanisms and a comprehensive reliability stack, enabling robust AI applications in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, and healthcare. The project is led by Dr. Anteneh Gebregiorgis, in collaboration with Prof. Said Hamdioui, Dr. M. Ottavi (University of Twente), and Dr. A. Yousefzadeh (University of Twente).
