12 books in a year challenge /A follow-up to my previous post/ The second book- Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of NIKE In this book, Phil Knight /founder of Nike/ described an amazing detail of his journey from a small running shoe importer to a multi-billion dollar publicly-traded company. I did know who Phil Knight is, I saw the swoosh logo, I experienced the high-quality Japanese products. BUT, the fact that how he build this brand had been unfamiliar to me before I picked up this interesting memoir. Phil saw that Japanese cars had become very popular in America. His “CRAZY IDEA” was that Japanese shoes could also become very popular in America in the near future. 😜While he was studying MBA at Stanford pitched the idea of marketing Japanese running shoes to American markets. Almost all of Phil's classmates fell asleep on the spot, yet, Knight was onto something big. At the end of his world travel, Phil arrived in Japan and set up a meeting with a shoe company called Onitsuka. The whole meeting, he’s faking it. 🤣 When the Japanese people asked what company he represented, Phil said “Blue Ribbon. Surprisingly, Onitsuka saw an opportunity in America and agreed to let him distribute their shoes in America. It was how the Blue Ribbon (Nike) was born. 😃
