Matthias Diependaele, Minister-President of the Flemish Government and Flemish Minister for Economy, Innovation and Industry, Foreign Affairs, Digitalization and Facility Management, visited TRUMPF at the Silicon Saxony Days 2026 – and semiconductors were at the center of the conversation. Together with Patrick Vandenameele, CEO of imec, Frank Bösenberg, Managing Director Silicon Saxony, and the delegation, we exchanged views on the growing strategic importance of the global semiconductor industry and Europe’s role in it. Topics included advanced chip manufacturing technologies such as EUV lithography, plasma-based processes for coating and etching, and the close collaboration between leading partners like ASML, ZEISS and TRUMPF. We also discussed how strong industrial partnerships and research collaborations – for example with imec – can further strengthen Europe’s position in the semiconductor ecosystem and enable a smarter, more sustainable and more connected future. Many thanks to Minister-President Diependaele, Patrick Vandenameele and all partners involved for the valuable exchange at Silicon Saxony Days 2026.
