Yesterday, we brought together European venture capital investors and fund managers at the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxembourg for 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗜-𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗩𝗖 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽, co-hosted with the EIC - European Innovation Council and Angelini Ventures. From institutional perspectives and VC best practices to a technical deep dive into AI infrastructure, one thing became clear: AI in venture capital is no longer about experimenting with tools. It's about building sustainable capabilities. A few themes kept resurfacing throughout the discussions: ➡️ Build vs. Buy remains one of the biggest strategic questions when developing AI capabilities. ➡️ Proprietary data and institutional knowledge are becoming the true competitive advantage for firms building AI-native investment processes. ➡️ Finding the right balance between scalable, programmatic workflows and rapidly built AI applications is a challenge every VC is facing. ➡️ As in-house AI tool landscapes continue to grow, maintaining them and reducing reliance on individual technical experts are becoming increasingly important considerations. One highlight was the technical deep dive by our partner Marcel Grosskopff Grosskopf who demonstrated how to build an AI engine for venture capital, from data pipelines and predictive scoring to custom tools and CRM workflows. Together with Philipp Spenger, he shared insights from our ongoing collaboration with the European Innovation Council, translating AI strategy into practical infrastructure for VC organizations. Beyond the presentations, what made the workshop particularly valuable was the openness of the discussions. Participants openly shared implementation challenges, practical experiences and lessons learned from integrating AI across the VC value chain. Events like this demonstrate the value of bringing together institutional, technical and investment perspectives to tackle shared challenges.
