There’s lots to be grateful today. 4 years ago I had a mental breakdown. My work environment broke me. On 1 July 2022 with my wife standing behind me, Talentology was born out of that wreckage. That sentence still feels strange to write in public. A breakdown isn't something recruiters or business founders are meant to admit to, let alone credit with starting a company. But it's true. Without that period, and without Mrs Talentology beside me through it, I would never have taken the chance. I built Talentology to indulge something I'd wanted for years. Not recruiting, where you work for the employer. Advocacy, where you work for the person. The job seekers, the contractors, the fractional workers, the IT SME leaders who can't work out why nothing is landing. People isolated by unemployment. People over 45 being judged on age and career gaps they can't explain away. People suffering financially and mentally and quietly. Four years on, we've built a community of more than 3,000 people through the Job Seeker Cafe, just to take the edge off that isolation. CareerAGILITY and The Hustle Game exist because coaching needed to actually work, not just exist. CareerAGENT manages contractor careers properly. Fractional+45 connects employers to talent without a recruitment fee or middleman anywhere in sight. I’m delighted to say that hundreds of people have found their way back to work through this over the past 4 years. More than that, hundreds of people have remembered they were good at their jobs in the first place. That's the part I'm proudest of. We reminded them of about their awesomeness. Restored their confidence. I've also not been afraid to call some things out. AI flattening every job application into the same beige application. ATS scoring nonsense. The employers and recruiters who treat candidates as disposable and with disrespect. Bad advice clogging the LinkedIn newsfeed. Recruiter scams nobody else seems willing to name.
