𝗔 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁. Trench Canada has been awarded the contract to design, manufacture, and test six 500 kV dry type air core shunt reactor banks for the RioSol Transmission Project – marking the first-ever installation of 500 kV HVSR dry type technology in North America. RioSol is a 550-mile, 500 kV HVAC transmission line connecting New Mexico and Arizona, with a capacity of 1,600 MW and a total investment of $2.4 billion. One of the largest transmission infrastructure projects ever planned in the United States. Dry type air core reactors at this voltage level demand precise engineering: tight tolerances, stringent electrical performance, and in this case, demanding physical space constraints that required close collaboration between R&D, Engineering, and Sales from the earliest bid stage. The result pushes the boundaries of what dry-type technology can deliver at transmission scale. RioSol is slated to go online in 2028.
