NEW: Dubai, London Heathrow and Los Angeles airports produce three times as much CO2 as the entire city of Paris. The latest data from our Airport Tracker shows the scale of aviation emissions at the airport level. The results are striking ⬇️ ✈️ If aviation were a country, it would be the 5th largest national emitter. 🌎 Airports in Europe account for more emissions than all the airports in Latin America, the Middle East and Africa combined. 🇬🇧 London is the city with the highest emissions from airports globally. Heathrow Airport alone ranks 2nd in the world for the most polluting airport. But while global aviation emissions are on the rise, airports across Europe are planning expansions. We can’t allow a fossil-dependent sector to continue expanding by increasing airport capacity, when the economic case for airport expansion no longer holds in the majority of European capitals and regions. It’s time to prioritise Europe’s energy independence and citizens’ health by aligning airport capacity with climate, health and environmental goals.
