TAP welcomes the opening of the “Greece and the Routes to the West: The Shipwreck in the Otranto Strait” exhibition in Athens, running from 16 June to 15 September, bringing to Greek audiences a remarkable discovery first presented in Italy. The exhibition showcases findings from a 7th century BC shipwreck recovered from nearly 800 metres below sea level in the Strait of Otranto during TAP offshore construction works, representing one of the few Greek archaic shipwrecks identified to date in Mediterranean waters — and the first in the Adriatic Sea. Now hosted at the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens, the exhibition, under the auspices of the Ministries of Culture of Greece and Italy, offers a unique opportunity to explore how commercial routes across the Adriatic shaped connections between the two countries — connections that TAP continues to support today. The inauguration ceremony on 15 June was attended by Lina Mendoni, the Minister of Culture of Greece along with her Italian counterpart Alessandro Giuli, as well as Paolo Cuculi, the Ambassador of Italy to Greece; TAP was represented by Ioannis Maris, Country Representative for Greece, and Konstantine Chalatsopoulos CEng MBA, Operations & Maintenance Manager for Greece. For TAP, it is a source of pride to see a discovery made in the context of its activities now brought to wider audiences — first in Italy and now in Greece — helping preserve and share a story of such historical significance. #CulturalHeritage #Greece #Italy
