Brazil is Latin America’s largest and most developed power market—and Trafigura has officially entered it. We are pleased to announce that Trafigura has received authorization from Brazil’s National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) to participate in the country’s wholesale electricity market. Brazil is the world’s sixth-largest power market and the most mature in Latin America, having undergone significant structural reforms over recent decades. With approximately two-thirds of its electricity generated from hydropower, the country has one of the highest levels of renewable energy penetration globally, creating a dynamic market where weather patterns play a key role in shaping power prices and seasonal volatility. With this license, Trafigura is positioned to participate actively through power trading, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and selective investments in power-related assets.
