Trafigura and Generadora Metropolitana have completed the acquisition of the Los Guindos Power Plant in Chile's Biobío Region — marking Trafigura's entry into the Chilean power sector. The 273 MW plant will be converted from diesel to natural gas this year, increasing generation capacity and reducing emissions. Generadora Metropolitana will lead the operation and management of the plant, combining local market expertise with Trafigura's global energy trading capabilities and supply network. "Chile is a strategic market for Trafigura in Latin America, and this transaction marks our entry into the country's power sector with a long-term commitment. Generadora Metropolitana will bring its operational expertise in the local market, backed by the logistical and commercial experience Trafigura has built over decades in energy markets around the world," said Gerardo Zmijak, Commercial Director, Trafigura Argentina.
