ππ Shaping the future of nuclear power in outer space On 9 June, Tractebel joined a high-level workshop in Vienna, organised by United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), on the future of nuclear power source applications in outer space that are key to enabling missions to distant planetary bodies like the Moon, Mars and beyond. Our colleague Ruben Van Parys, Design Engineer, presented Tractebelβs perspective on the safety and regulatory challenges of space nuclear propulsion, while Brieuc SPINDLER, Product Manager β Space, contributed to the discussions. π This builds on the European Space Agency - ESA-commissioned RocketRoll project that Tractebel led. It explored Nuclear Electric Propulsion (NEP), a game-changing technology for long-duration and interplanetary missions, with a European demonstrator targeted by 2035. As technology evolves, international cooperation and robust frameworks remain essential to ensure the safe, secure and trusted use of nuclear power in space. We are proud to contribute to this global dialogue shaping a sustainable and responsible space future. π Thank you to UNOOSA and the IAEA for the invitation. #WeareTractebel #Space #Nuclear #Innovation #SpaceExploration
