🔎 Exploring potential areas for SMRs in the Dutch Provincie Overijssel ⚛️ Tractebel has completed an initial siting study commissioned by the Province of Overijssel to assess the potential integration of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in the region. Using our proprietary SMR.SITE tool and internationally recognised criteria from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), our experts conducted an independent, multi-criteria analysis considering factors such as population density, environmental constraints, cooling water availability, and grid proximity. 👉 The study concludes that: ☑️ Smaller SMRs (≤100 MW) could potentially be accommodated in several parts of the province ☑️ Larger SMRs (100–500 MW) appear more limited, mainly near the River Ijssel This work provides a first technical building block to support the Province’s reflections on its future energy mix without implying any decision on nuclear deployment or specific locations. 💬 “Leveraging Tractebel’s expertise in nuclear siting and energy systems, we conducted an independent technical screening based on internationally recognised criteria. The results serve as an unbiased starting point for further, more detailed analyses.” Titus Tielens, Independent Consultant, Tractebel As a trusted partner in energy transition, Tractebel supports public authorities with independent, data-driven insights to enable informed decision-making on complex energy challenges. #EngineeringaCarbonNeutralFuture #SMR #EnergyTransition #NuclearEngineering #Netherlands #Overijssel #Innovation Deepak Narasimhamurthy, Suresin Mari (Pr.
