Today I want to talk to you about social anxiety, where sweaty palms and brain malfunction excels, especially at the gym, pool or spa (disclaimer, there are plenty of other social settings that trigger a similar reaction for me). So, imagine this: I stroll into the health club, my inner critic on full blast, telling me everything that could possibly go wrong. "You'll probably trip on the treadmill," it says, "or embarrass yourself in that swimsuit." And let's not forget the extra dose of self-criticism my post-baby body brings along. Thanks, inner critic, you're a real charmer. Despite the mental gymnastics I somehow muster the courage to show up. And, hey, once I’m in the pool I can begin to relax, well a little! But then, the dread creeps back in as I contemplate the grand exit from the water. "Your body will be on display," my inner saboteur whispers. I feel like I’m in an episode of the ‘Peep Show’. As if that weren't enough, I'm a newbie at this particular club, navigating through those pesky revolving gates like a confused penguin. Seriously, who designed those things?
