Aimed at mitigating the pay gaps between women and men at European Union level, the Pay Transparency Directive actually seeks to strengthen the principle of equal pay for women and men who perform the same work or work of equal value, irrelevant of gender. Although the deadline for transposing the Directive into national law expired on 7 June 2026, Romania is still in the process of transposing it into national legislation.
