On this day in 1893, the original Valdese Settlers arrived in Valdese. The report of that memorable date states: "On the night of their arrival, on May 29, the families gathered around a table and hear the reading of Ps. 103, followed by a meditation suited to the occasion; this first service of thanksgiving and gratitude and ended with a hymn and a prayer." Within a few days, the contract for the purchase of land was completed, and with a charter granted by the State of NC, the Valdese Corporation was founded. The original settlers include: -J.
