What is shipping’s biggest hidden risk? 🚢❓ That question came up during the HHX.blue GmbH panel at Posidonia Events last week and it goes straight to one of the biggest discussions in shipping right now: the net zero framework. Our CEO, Ernst Meyer remarked that while chaos is seldom negative for shipowners, the deeper paradox still lies in carbon. How do we create a commercial environment where decarbonization is not a disadvantage, but an economic advantage? As Meyer said during the panel: ❝Shipping is commercially driven. The industry will never know what is best for itself from a long-term perspective. If carbon pricing is introduced abruptly and you are on the wrong side of it, you will have a disadvantage, and some shipowners might have seen the NZF agreement delay as a rescue plan. The paradox is serious, and it will bite hard. Every day that passes, it becomes more expensive to fix. It can only be fixed if there is a commercial suction to it. It will not be fixed by subsidies, and it will not be fixed by forbidding carbon emissions. Carbon must have a cost.❞ 🔗 You can read more about Ernst’s thoughts in his interview with TradeWinds during Posidonia here: https://lnkd.in/eagHcB3s #CarbonPricing #TradingEfficiency #FutureOfShipping
