Dia dhuit, Éire! From 1 July, Ireland holds the Presidency of the Council of the EU. And for circular packaging, there is a lot on the table. Two dates stand out 👇 1. 12 August: PPWR starts to apply. 2. End September: The Circular Economy Act is expected. So, what would we like to see over the next six months? Keep the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (#PPWR) moving from paper to practice. Europe has set direction on reuse, recycled content, and better collection. Now businesses need the confidence to keep investing. Make the rules easier to work with, not easier to work around. Simplification should help circularity move faster, not quietly lower the bar. Back the routes that bring materials back: reuse, deposit return, separate collection, and sorting and recycling close to where materials are collected. Ireland already knows this work in practical terms. It has had extended producer responsibility schemes since the 1990s, introduced deposit return for bottles and cans in 2024, and uses advanced sorting in the food value chain to improve yield and reduce loss. TOMRA is proud to be present in Ireland through TOMRA Collection and one of TOMRA Food’s main offices. “Strength with unity” is a strong motto for the months ahead. Europe’s circular economy will need both. #IrishPresidency #EU2026 #CircularEconomy #PPWR #Reuse
