What makes one deposit return scheme (#DRS) deliver consistently, while another struggles? That’s one of the most useful parts of our updated white paper, because the differences often come down to a few design choices.    Deposit value is one of them. Lithuania introduced a standalone €0.10 deposit and saw performance rise from 34% to 92% in less than two years. Massachusetts has kept a US$0.05 deposit in place for decades and recorded a 35% return rate in 2024. And the policy context is moving. Our updated paper notes that the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (#PPWR), adopted in 2024, mandates deposit return systems for plastic and metal beverage packaging and requires 90% separate collection by 1 January 2029.
