When customer requirements became stricter, Cusiana turned to us. Together, we built a sorting setup that is redefining aluminum recycling. At its plant in Verbania, Italy, Raffineria Metalli Cusiana Spa processes around 100,000 tons of aluminum per year. As customer requirements became stricter, melting alone was no longer enough to guarantee precise elemental limits for silicon, iron or manganese. The answer came with a strategic shift. Together with Cusiana, we developed a fully automated, multi-stage sorting line designed to achieve ultra-high purity and alloy-specific separation of the scrap. The setup includes… ➡️ Four X-TRACT™ units to remove contaminants and heavy-metals ➡️ Two AUTOSORT™ PULSE units powered by Dynamic LIBS for alloy specific sorting ➡️ A FINDER™ unit to recover valuable fine metal fractions Cusiana now generates two high-value output streams: • Branded “Recall” ingots with guaranteed 100% recycled content • Premium, alloy-specific scrap suitable for direct use by manufacturers without downgrading 💬 “The strategic, collaborative nature of this partnership with TOMRA was the cornerstone of this transformation. The multi-stage, multi-sensor line has given us the ability to produce high-quality, alloy-true secondary aluminum ingots, which is vital for securing new business.” – Fausto Forni, Plant Manager at Cusiana Today, scrap recovery generates 50% of total revenue and has become a key growth driver for Cusiana. A single challenge. A scalable solution. Now a reference point for the wider industry. Full story in the comments.
