Hygiene in Healthcare: It Starts With Us in the Lab 🥼🧪 As Medical Laboratory Scientists, we’re literally the first people to touch a patient’s sample. Blood, urine, sputum, tissues... anything can come to our bench. And anything can carry viruses, bacteria, parasites, or infectious diseases. That’s why hygiene in the lab is very necessary. There are 2 things I’ve learned we can’t play with: 1. Wear your PPE. Every time. Gloves, lab coat, face shield, closed shoes. Not just when the sample “looks risky.” I’ve seen people run tests with bare hands and later ask “how did I get sick?” Exactly why our PPE’s(personal protective equipments) are very important. 2. Wash your hands. Always. Before and after. Even with gloves on. Your hands I touch the keyboard, door, phone... and then your face. That’s how exposure happens. My lecturer told us something I’ll never forget: “Treat every sample as infectious.”Whether it’s a stranger’s, your friend’s, or even your mother’s. Because good hygiene doesn’t just protect us. It protects our patients, our colleagues, our family, and the results we release. Routine checks save lives. But routine hygiene saves the lab scientist too. As med lab scientists what’s one hygiene rule you refuse to compromise on in the lab? Also, yesterday we learnt how to create flyers and other designs using Canva during my virtual assistance class at TS Academy, and I put it into practice by making this flyer for my post. #MedicalLaboratoryScience #Healthcare #Safety #LaboratoryEthics #TSAcademy #VirtualAssistance #CanvaDesign #SkillDevelopment #ContinuousLearning
