The demands on any coating are immense, but especially so when it comes to outdoor equipment, like lawnmowers for example. Excel Industries, Inc. manufacturer of the Hustler Turf Equipment and BigDog Mower Co. brands, has seen tremendous growth over the years, so much so that they were outgrowing their pretreatment capabilities. “Our old eight-stage washer system was designed to run at a maximum of nine feet per minute,” explains Johnny Kotek, powder coating supervisor at Excel. “As we increased production rates, we needed the capability to go up to possibly 14 feet a minute.” With the help of Therma-Tron-X, Inc. (TTX®) on the equipment side and Chemetall on their chemistry, they were able to achieve their goals of growing capacity and obtaining improved paint adhesion.
