"It will be brutal for the first three years, then better, then great." That's what one financial advisor said in response to Financial Planning's Compensation Survey question asking for advice to early-career and aspiring professionals in the field. Hundreds of advisors shared some similar advice about the difficulty of making it over this industry's notoriously high barriers of entry into its ultimately rewarding careers. It was fascinating to see the relationship between tenure, AUM and total compensation but even moreso to read the lessons advisors said they would share with young people and career changers coming into the profession. And Jeffrey Czajka, CEPA® of Advisor Growth Solutions said the findings fit a lot of what he has seen in the industry over the years as a consultant to advisors.
