🐨 Australian-first innovation helping protect koalas QLD roads! The Fauna Escape Hatch (FEH), funded by the Coomera Connector Stage 1 project has reached two significant milestones: ✔️ Officially verified by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) as an Australian-first innovation ✔️ Included in the Queensland Government’s Fauna Sensitive Transport Infrastructure Delivery Manual. Why is this important? This innovative one-way barrier, designed to help koalas safely exit road corridors and reduce vehicle strikes, is no longer just a trial – it’s now becoming a standard feature in road infrastructure projects across Queensland. An innovation jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments as part of Coomera Connector Stage 1, but already being implemented on major projects, including the Pacific Motorway M1 Varsity Lakes to Tugun upgrade, and within City of Moreton Bay. This is a great example of how evidence-based design and strong partnerships can lead to real-world outcomes for wildlife conservation and infrastructure planning.
