When many questioned whether India needed such an ambitious institution, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur remained unwavering.She secured international support from New Zealand, Australia,Sweden,Germany and the United States,guided the AIIMS bill through Parliament in 1956 and laid the foundation for what would become Indiaโ€™s most respected medical institution. As Health Minister,she led campaigns against tuberculosis and malaria, strengthened nursing and medical education and championed healthcare for women and children.
