This weekend’s power outage in Southern Jutland was a stark reminder of how interconnected our critical infrastructure truly is. It wasn’t just the loss of electricity that impacted us — the failure quickly cascaded into something even more fundamental: water supply. With pumping stations lacking sufficient back-up power, access to water was disrupted, highlighting a vulnerability many of us rarely consider. For those of us working in security and resilience, this is not surprising — but it is concerning. Incidents like this raise important questions: Are our critical systems sufficiently protected against cascading failures? Do our contingency plans cover dependencies beyond the obvious? And are we investing enough in resilience — not just redundancy? Energy, water, and infrastructure are deeply linked. When one fails, others can follow faster than expected. This weekend should serve as a call to action for stronger cross-sector preparedness and more robust backup strategies — especially for essential services. Resilience isn’t just about preventing outages. It’s about ensuring society continues to function when they happen. #Resilience #CriticalInfrastructure #RiskManagement #Security #Preparedness
