Ilia Malinin isn’t only the “Quad God”: he’s also a "raspberry twist" creator — at least, that’s what he calls the trick. The 21-year-old Olympics figure skater approaches the sport with a playful exuberance, often translating the tumbling and twisting moves he learned in gymnastics onto the ice. At an event in New York City honoring the TIME100 Sports honorees on Thursday, Malinin shared how his signature trick is also a nod to his heritage.
