Today we celebrated the 85th birthday of my mentor, Prof. Hermann Wagner, on a wonderful day at the Ammersee. His scientific legacy is impressive. Beyond his major contributions to immunology, one of his greatest achievements is the generation of people he trained, supported, and inspired. Many of his former mentees now hold (or held) chairs in medical microbiology or immunology, carrying forward his standards, curiosity, and academic rigor. It was a privilege to celebrate this day with Hermann. Happy 85th birthday, Hermann Wagner. Thank you for your mentorship, your example, and your lasting impact on our field.
