Chief Executive Officer at National Football Museum

A historic day at the National Football Museum as we inducted Justin Fashanu into the Hall of Fame. He remains the only male professional footballer to have out as gay whilst still playing. The first black player to command a £1M transfer fee when he joined Nottingham Forest, he will always be remembered for that wonder goal for Norwich against Liverpool 40 years ago. He tragically committed suicide in 1998. His legacy is the courage he showed both on the pitch and off it, and the hope that he won’t be alone for much longer. Both the Justin Fashanu Foundation championed by his niece Amal and the National Football Museum through the Hall of Fame, will continue to honour him through positive community engagement, celebrating diversity through the game of all our lives.
