This week marked the first full week teaching rocket science online to middle schoolers. The young builders were challenged to go around their homes and collect as many parts as possible to turn into a rocket in 5 minutes. They showed them off and named them- the “SS potato” being a crowd favorite. We then watched “the flying tin can” #Starship hop from #spaceX and I asked them how long they thought it took to make. “8 years” was the common guess. When they learned that it took less than a week minds were blown 🤯 They made the connection that were just like SpaceX- making rockets quickly from ordinary household parts, not very different than the “flying tin can”. From an anonymous school admin who dropped in: “Congrats for getting them engaged online, I was amazed”.
