Two South African legaltech startups, Legal Lens and BriefCo under the Cycad Group (founded by Yusha Davidson and Catherine-Jane Paulse) with the aim to regulate legal expenses and mitigate excessive legal fees and to automate the preparation of and opposition to bills of costs respectively have raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Imvelo Ventures. In addition to the funding, Davidson and Paulse have also established South Africa’s first legal tech network titled, the South African Legal Technology (SALT) Network which will connect individuals who are working in the fields of law and technology. Source: ventureburn.com The Canada (Vancouver, BC) based legaltech firm, Clio - Cloud-Based Legal Technology, led by Jack Newton enabling practice management, CRM and client intake software through its cloud-based platform has raised US$110M in Series E funding with a new valuation of US$1.6 Billion. The company intends to use the funds to further invest in its platforms, strategic acquisitions, partnerships and to grow its workforce.
