Happy Sauvignon Blanc Day! Hans has been working with this grape variety not only here in Marlborough, but in his home Country – Switzerland. Once upon a time ago, Hans as chief winemaker for a wine merchant in Zurich, finished off and bottled wines from across Europe. The first to import Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley into Switzerland in 1981. The same year he and Therese visited Marlborough for the first time – fitting! A few years later, always the innovator, he planted it in his Swiss vineyard, an unauthorized grape variety then. Hans' love affair with this variety spans 40 years... However, for him "Marlborough with its dry, sunny days and cool nights is truly one of the best wine making regions in the world to grow Sauvignon Blanc". It thrives extremely well in the alluvial, organic soils on the south bank of the Wairau river. Hand-picked and hand-crafted from low yield, barrel fermented and matured in top French puncheons for 18 months. A field blend with 15% Semillon, showing off its perfect terroir - a serious wine. Another kind of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc which can be enjoyed in different styles. Always interesting and full of flavours. Cheers to this variety which put Marlborough on the map!  #winelover #winelife #organicwines #handcraftedwine
