The US extended a waiver allowing purchases of Russian oil until June 17 to help ease global fuel price pressures following disruptions linked to the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, while European sanctions on Russian oil remained in place. India continued increasing its imports of Russian crude, with Russia supplying 36.7% of India’s oil imports in 2024 and a record 2.25 million barrels per day in March. Despite ongoing Western sanctions, Russia has maintained strong crude oil exports, with demand from major buyers such as India and China helping sustain its energy trade.
