India is giving its highway infrastructure a digital health check. 🌉📊 The Government of India has launched a nationwide digital survey to assess the condition of bridges and other major structures across the national highway network, marking a significant step toward smarter and safer infrastructure management. The initiative will inspect nearly 1.7 lakh structures, including bridges, flyovers, and culverts longer than six metres. Conducted under the Indian Bridge Management System (IBMS), the survey will use a newly developed mobile application to create a centralized digital database of bridge inventory and structural health across the country. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways - India (MoRTH) has directed agencies including NHAI, NHIDCL, BRO, and State Public Works Departments (PWDs) to complete the exercise by September 2026. A key highlight is the use of drone technology to inspect hard-to-reach bridge components, helping identify structural issues early, enable preventive maintenance, and improve the long-term safety and reliability of India's highway infrastructure. As India rapidly expands its road network, data-driven infrastructure monitoring is becoming just as important as building new roads. #Infrastructure #India #Highways #MoRTH #NHAI #DigitalTransformation #DroneTechnology #SmartInfrastructure #CivilEngineering #Innovation
