As we recognize International Men’s Health Month, it’s worth talking about a part of men’s health that often goes unnoticed: emotional health. Many men grow up learning that being “strong” means being silent. They learn to suppress disappointment, hide fear, and carry stress without complaint because vulnerability is too often mistaken for weakness. So they become dependable colleagues, providers, leaders, and friends while quietly dealing with anxiety, burnout, grief, or loneliness. The irony is that emotional expression doesn’t diminish masculinity; it strengthens resilience and healthier relationships. Perhaps the conversation this month shouldn’t just be about physical health or fitness. It should also be about creating environments where men don’t feel they have to wear emotional armor every day. A healthier society is one where everyone feels safe to ask for help, including men. This International Men’s Health Month, let’s normalize strength that includes honesty.
