I often get asked where my love for hospitality comes from. The answer has very little to do with culinary school. It began at home. My mother taught me to cook. Not recipes. Instinct. How to taste before you season. How to know a dish is ready before the timer says so. How to feed people in a way that makes them feel cared for. My father never entered the kitchen. But he taught me something equally important. That beauty matters. The way a table is laid. The weight of a glass. The fold of a napkin. The light in a room. He believed that details are a form of respect. That belief eventually led him to send me to finishing school, where I learned that hospitality is never just about food. It’s about how people feel. Years later, Le Cordon Bleu gave me technique. Savour School in Melbourne deepened my appreciation for craftsmanship and precision. Institut Villa Pierrefeu in Switzerland taught me that hospitality extends far beyond the plate into culture, etiquette, and the art of making people feel welcome. But the truth is, my greatest lessons came long before any classroom. My mother taught me how to nourish. My father taught me that beauty is never superficial. The Brand Table by Ratna is, in many ways, where those lessons come together. Today, whether I’m developing a restaurant concept, consulting for a hospitality brand, creating a Chef’s Table experience, or designing a guest journey, I begin with one question: How do we make people feel? Because people rarely remember every dish they ate. But they always remember how they were welcomed. How thoughtfully they were hosted. How a meal became a memory. And in a world where almost everything can be replicated, that feeling remains the true luxury. I’d love to know: What is one hospitality experience you’ll never forget and why? #ChefLife #FoodBusiness #LuxuryHospitality #ChefSTable #CulinaryBrandStrategy #WellnessCuisine #FoodEntrepreneur
