An innovative piece of Spanish legislation could inspire a new approach to environmental law. In the Closing Argument of the latest issue of The Bar Review, Turlough O'Donnell SC takes us to the Mar Menor, Europe’s largest saltwater lagoon in south eastern Spain. The Mar has been subjected to environmental pollution for several decades and in 2022, local activists and environmental campaigners worked together to bring a bill to the Spanish Parliament, which effectively recognised the Mar as a legal entity.
