Weekly Update: ➡️ $𝟱𝟰 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗨𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗲: 𝗚𝗮𝘀 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗮 𝟲-𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵. Global gas flaring is getting worse for the third year in a row. In 2025, the world burned 167 billion cubic meters of gas worth an estimated $54 billion. The World Bank's 2026 Global Gas Flaring Tracker shows what's needed to turn the tide. ➡️ 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀. A herder in Somalia now reaches water in 30 minutes instead of two hours. A commuter in Dhaka breathes easier on her way to work. Behind both is World Bank analysis that shaped laws, unlocked investment, and created jobs. ➡️ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮'𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗕𝗲𝘁 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗡𝗼𝘄. West Africa produces 24 million tons of rice a year but still imports 10 million more, costing over $3.5 billion annually. A new roadmap outlines the path to rice self-sufficiency by 2035. ➡️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗮𝗽 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀. Women-led small businesses are critical to economic growth but still face barriers to credit, mentorship, and finance. A World Bank Group and Visa Foundation partnership is piloting solutions across five countries to help women entrepreneurs scale.
