Today is a moment to reflect on how it all began. 80 years ago, the first World Bank Board of Executive Directors met, establishing a system of collective decision-making that continues to guide the institution’s work. From 18 Directors representing 37 countries to 25 Directors representing 189 members today, the Board has remained central to shaping priorities, guiding operations, and delivering results.
