Reliable internet is more than a connection. It is a pathway to jobs, education, entrepreneurship, and opportunity. In the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), a decade of digital transformation is connecting some of the world's most remote islands and opening new possibilities for people and businesses. Since 2014, the World Bank Group-supported FSM Connectivity Project has helped: ➡️ Reach 88% of the population with improved digital connectivity, with half of beneficiaries women ➡️ Increase internet use 20-fold ➡️ Reduce fixed broadband prices by 99% ➡️ Connect remote islands through a combination of submarine fiber-optic cables and satellite technology ➡️ Foster competition through regulatory reforms that attracted new service providers and expanded consumer choice For entrepreneurs, reliable internet means reaching customers beyond their islands. For students, it means greater access to education. For communities, it means better access to digital services and new economic opportunities. By investing in digital infrastructure alongside policy reforms and stronger institutions, the project is helping create the conditions for more productive businesses, better jobs, and a more connected future.
