Women have served our nation since the Revolutionary War—often without the recognition, status, or support afforded to others. Their contributions helped shape our military long before women were officially recognized as permanent members of the Armed Forces. June 12 is observed as Women Veterans Day, commemorating the 1948 Women’s Armed Services Integration Act. That legislation was a major milestone, but it was only one step in a much longer journey toward broader recognition of women’s service and leadership. Today, we honor the women who served before us: those who endured barriers while wearing the uniform, challenged limitations placed upon them, and opened doors for the generations that followed. At The Valkyrie Project, Women Veterans Day is both a reflection and a reminder. The legacy of women veterans continues to shape the path for women serving today across the Active Duty, National Guard, and Reserve components. And while progress has been made, service women continue to face obstacles that affect operational readiness, performance, health, and leadership opportunities. That legacy requires more than recognition; it requires continuous work. The Valkyrie Project brings a research and analytical lens to the realities women face in uniform, translating evidence into education, human performance guidance, tailored training, targeted resources, and community connections to help close gaps, optimize readiness, and strengthen support throughout their service lifecycle. To every woman who served and paved the way, thank you. Happy Women Veterans Day. #WomenVeteransDay #WomenVeterans #WomenWhoServe #MilitaryReadiness #ValkyrieProject
