In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, SPOHP highlights oral histories from our Latinx Diaspora in the Americas Project, an archive of over 100 oral histories dedicated to creating space for Latinx people to share their historical experiences related to identity, immigration reform, labor conditions, education, and civil rights. Today, we highlight two recent interviews conducted in Spanish with Peruvian filmmakers, Shirley Vela and Pedro Javier Dinos Chauca. Interviewed separately by Adolfho Romero, these filmmakers shared stories regarding their experiences making films, the importance of filmmaking, and the traditions and perseverance of people in the Amazon region.
