“Maybe the word ‘commercialisation’ is not the best word… people might not even think about it, because the word might put people off.” – Vanissa Wanick Vanissa is a senior lecturer in interaction design at the University of Southampton and co-founder of Nucleolus Software, a spin-out games studio that turns research into meaningful, player-centred experiences, from games for health to citizen engagement. Her story shows how research in arts & humanities can find a commercial pathway. In this episode, Vanissa shares: • Why “commercialisation” puts A&H researchers off, and what to call it instead • Why commercial opportunities in A&H are there but often unseen • How the spinout became a great vehicle for ongoing knowledge exchange • What genuine, human-centred impact looks like for her and the venture Vanissa’s story shows there’s no single route from academia to entrepreneurship, and that commercial opportunities and pathways are available to researchers from just about any discipline. I hope you get as much out of this conversation as we did. 🎧 Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/eDf7Evmj
