No big long reads on the lates edition of The Raikes Journal email, sent to subscribers on Monday, but plenty of stories I hope will keep you interested. Especially the one about what looks like a major transformation of a forgotten quarter of Gloucester with new hotels and apartments. There's a story about Sir Nicholas Serota, chair of Arts Council England and formerly director of the Tate and chair of the Turner Prize jury hanging out and enjoying himself in Matson because of a community project he likes there. And not for the first time. The Holly Gazzard Trust gets plenty of publicity already, but its latest partnership with Bridge Training also highlights a much-overlooked training provider doing great things in Gloucestershire and that deserves more credit. The edition features an article by friend of Raikes, Ian Mean MBE, who interviews Cheltenham Borough Council’s chief executive, Gareth Edmundson about the Golden Valley Development. Expect social media to be swamped with PR even more than usual shortly as the spades finally go in the ground. There's an update on the story of the sale of Move Property Sales & Lettings to Dwelly (a story we first ran a few weeks back). It's emerged that the deal was made possible by the expertise of Peter Raybould, a partner at #Cheltenham-headquartered Willans LLP solicitors. And there's a line or two about the recent The Pied Piper Appeal annual golf day at Brickhampton Court Golf Complex. But for the main story we’ve picked some detail out that emerged in another tale altogether, which spells out plans for a new boutique hotel for Gloucester that will bring back to life some of its forgotten listed buildings. Just one of two projects that promises to transform an all but empty quarter close to the city centre. More evidence, if any was needed, of the rise and rise of the Gloucester. https://lnkd.in/eeSkZjwH
