There are six tribal nations in northern Minnesota: The Bois Forte Band of Chippewa in the northern part of the state, including the counties of Itasca and St. Louis. The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa in the counties of Carlton and St. Louis. The Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa at the northeast tip of Minnesota in Cook County. The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in north central Minnesota, including Itasca County. The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe in the east central part of the state, including Aitkin County.
