For our second post of this series, our engineering team evaluated the physical specs measuring weight, diameter, roundness, and hole dimensions to see how manufacturing choices impact the final product. Here is what we found when we looked past the surface: āļø The Weight Debate: There seems to be a preference to target higher weight limits. In fact, one of the most popular brands even occasionally exceeded the limits. ā Roundness & Manufacturing: The injection-molded ball showed incredible weight consistency, but the welding process likely contributed to out-of-roundness. Rotomolded balls took the crown for the best exterior dimensional consistency. šØ Hole Dynamics: We observed unique hole patterns and varying sizes across the brands, which explains why some balls can offer higher speed while making spin a lot more challenging for players. While these subtle differences might seem trivial on paper, advanced players feel them on every single serve and volley. Have you noticed a difference in flight or speed between ball brands? Let us know below! š You can find the entire article by clicking the image below. Next up in the series stay tuned as we take things to the microscopic level, using high-definition digital microscopy and an SEM to inspect surface texture!
