In September, we received 919 referrals — the highest number of people ever referred to our service in a single month since we opened in 2016. We also received a record number of volunteer applications, with 173 people applying to give their time to support those struggling with suicidal thoughts. Despite rapidly increasing demand, The Listening Place has always managed to operate without waiting lists. That's thanks to all the amazing people who have gone through our selection and training process and committed to regular shifts with us. The compassionate, non-judgmental, face-to-face sessions our volunteers offer have been a lifeline for thousands of people, and as we grow we will need even more of them.
