What do neuroscience, epidemiology, language, ecology, biology, economics, social and urban networks, particle physics, and cosmology have in common? According to a growing diverse community of experts and institutions featured (and soon to be featured) by The InterPlex—including Carlos A. Nobre, Ciro Cattuto, Constantino Tsallis, Dante R. Chialvo, Enver Oruro, PhD Neuroscience, Ganesh Bagler, Jaishri Sanwal Bhatt, Javier Martín Buldú, Jesús Gómez Gardeñes, Jordi Soriano Fradera, Mariana Gómez Soto, Marta C. Gonzalez, Rafael Hurtado, Ram Ramaswamy, and many others—they all reveal a fundamental reality: our world is made up of interconnected systems whose behavior cannot be understood by studying isolated parts alone. "Our world, and ultimately the entire cosmos, is filled with countless interacting, interdependent components. In complex systems—such as neural, socio-economic and information networks, as well as Earth systems, ecology and large-scale cosmological structures—phenomena surface that cannot be understood by the methods of reductionism,” writes Daniel Henryk Rasolt, in conversation with numerous other contributors, in our featured article on broadening science and bridging divides in a complex, interconnected world: https://buff.ly/TTQpbiI Phenomena such as emergence, self-organization, resilience, criticality, feedback loops, and adaptation challenge purely reductionist approaches to science and invite broader forms of interdisciplinary and intercultural collaboration. As the work of our collaborative and diverse contributor network demonstrates, such collaborations and dialogues may be crucial if we are to better understand and navigate the complex challenges facing the world today. #theinterplex #science #scientist #scientific #sciencenews #neuroscience #epidemiology #language #ecology #biology #economics #society #culture #cultural #network #networks #physics #cosmology #research #researcher #reality #system #systems #interconnected #cosmos #world #global #challenge #collaboration #article
