Leah Thomas for TIME 100 Creators 2026. Leah Thomas firmly believes that racial justice and care for the environment go hand in hand, and she uses her voice on the internet to advance both causes. The 2014 police killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., near her hometown of Florissant, was a pivotal moment for Thomas, who was then studying environmental science and policy at Chapman University. Since then, the 31-year-old self-described “eco-communicator” has made environmental justice her focus. She runs the resource hub Intersectional Environmentalist and published a book by the same name in 2022. Under the online moniker GreenGirlLeah, Thomas makes the issues she cares about digestible to her audience, contributing to conversations by linking cultural moments with social justice; recently, Thomas has used her platform on Instagram to educate her roughly 300,000 followers on topics like the history of Black wellness culture and Earth Day’s protest roots, among others. https://lnkd.in/gJSMTg8d
